Last Call

Since alcohol awareness month is coming, I'd thought I would get an early start. I thought it would be appropriate to write about the expression “last call”. Being young (about 30 years ago) and full of myself, it was a badge of honor to be part of the last call at the bar. When I got older and worked in New York City, last call wasn’t until 5 AM so that raised the stakes quite a bit. I quickly found myself not seeing the light of day on weekends. While I did slow down with age and marriage I tested this milestone whenever I could.

In sobriety I find there is so much more going on during daylight hours and I can actually remember the events without having to call someone. Ironically, my last call was at a place in Naples, FL called Porky’s Last stand. That was June 10, 2013 and it was my last stand, last call and last drink!
