5 Reasons to Consider Suboxone Maintenance

Suboxone maintenance is a controversial topic in recovery circles. While many of us have conquered addiction (one day at a time) in the old school fashion, times have changed. The street drugs today are more dangerous than we all could have imagined, but medical science has also provided some options that are worthwhile, and Suboxone (along with Naltrexone and Vivitrol) seem to be at the forefront.

Here are five reasons to consider a Suboxone Maintenance Program
1. Save Your Life
In 2016, more than 64,000 Americans died due to drug overdose. That’s more than the total number of Americans that lost their lives in the entire Vietnam War. Two-thirds of those are heroin/fentanyl related. The numbers are climbing, and so are the dangerous batches of drugs hitting the streets of each corner of America.
2. Informed Family Members Generally Support Treatment
While some family members might dislike the idea of Suboxone, those who learn accurate facts about this form of treatment often change their outlook. Family issues can be resolved by involving them in treatment. If you sign consents, the family can be a part of treatment.
3. Suboxone Maintenance Is Less Stigmatizing Than Active Addiction
Addiction treatment can be stigmatizing but no more so than being an addict is. Many addicts try to separate themselves from other addicts, thinking they are different somehow. This is normal, and it should not keep you from treatment. Florida addiction treatment is confidential, so no one needs to know that you are in drug treatment.
4. Treatment Time Requirements Are Manageable
Addicts may use their job, family life, school or other activities as excuses to not go to treatment. They might say they don’t have time for counseling or going to a Suboxone Treatment Center. Time varies by individual but, this is not much time when you consider the benefits. Addicts spend much more time getting high and using drugs. Look at this as trading in your full-time job for a part-time job.
5. Addiction Is Psychological – Tandem Therapy Makes a Difference
They may think they don't need counseling. Some addicts have the mistaken belief that addiction is physical not psychological, and they think that if they can just stop the withdrawal symptoms, they can lead a normal life. But addiction is more complicated than that. Addiction is a physical, and a psychological disorder. Proof of this is that most addicts really want to quit or cut back at some point but cannot do it no matter how hard they try. They cannot do it because most of addiction happens in the mind not the body. There really is no legitimate reason to avoid treatment. No matter what excuse you come up with, a reasonable person can refute it. Addiction destroys your life and can lead to early death. Considering that, there clearly is no reason good enough to not go to addiction treatment.
